The two figures run as fast as they can towards The Wide, cutting through different streets and alleyways in an attempt to lose you. \n\nYou manage to keep up for a while. They turn left into an alley that heads into The Wide, you resolve to cut them off at the other end of the street to finally catch up to them. However, when you step into The Wide, there is no sign of them. You look back into the alley, but it's just solid walls on both sides, there are no doors, windows, or even sewer grates for that matter. \n\nIs it possible they reached The Wide before you and turned into another street? \n\nYou check the surrounding streets and buildings but there's no sign of anyone. All the shops are closed, and even many of the taverns have closed their doors by now. <<if $insightRoll >= 20>>You decide to follow the person headed east, there are several places in the area that could be of interest to him. There are several Patriar estates down these streets.\n\nSoon after they split he heads into a smaller street, probably his intended destination, and you figure that now he's probably trapped. Most of these streets are a dead end after all. By the time you reach the street though, there's no sign of him. You look around the street wondering if there is some sort of secret entrance or if any of these houses have an open door, but there's nothing. \n\nAs you're searching the street a Watch patrol approaches "You! What do you think you're doing?" As you turn to look at them they realize who you are and apologize for their tone. Nevertheless, they'd still like to know why you're doing searching around Lord Caldwell's estate.\n\nYou explain that you followed a suspicious man into this street, but then lost him. A look of concern flashes over the Watch Guards. They thank you for the information, and tell you that they will continue patrolling and searching the street. They signal for additional guards to be sent here. \n\nYou figure that the man was probably headed towards the Caldwell estate, but the question is why? Was it an assassination attempt? It's hard to tell, but it seems that at the very least you have succeeded in stopping their plans. \n\nYou could try to follow the others, but you realize that by now they must be long gone. The Watch has now been alerted of the presence of these suspicious figures, they should be able to handle it from here on out. \n\nIt's been a long day, and you're getting pretty tired. All this running around is far more time consuming and tiring than it would seem. You should probably get some sleep.\n\n[[Go back to the inn|Upper City Lockout 02]]\n\n<<else>>\nYou follow the man headed south. The other man that turned east is clearly a diversion to try to get you to change paths.\n\nSoon after they split he heads into an alleyway, and you figure that now he's probably trapped. However, by the time you reach the alley, there's no sign of him. You look around the street wondering if there's some sort of secret entrance or if any of these houses have an open door, but there's nothing. \n\nAfter exiting the alley you see a Watch patrol and resolve to ask them if they have seen anyone suspicious in the area. They tell you that it has been a quiet night and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but they will make sure to keep their eyes open for anyone out of the street.\n\nYou realize that by now the others must be long gone. Searching for them in the Upper City without knowing where they were going or why will likely yield nothing. You have no doubt heard by now of the new curfew restrictions that have been implemented in the Upper City. Due to the rampant crime and vandalism that seems to be occurring since Adrian's death, we have found ourselves forced to do whatever is necessary to protect our citizens."\n\nSilvershield walks over to his desk and picks up several parchments and then hands them to you "These passports will allow you to travel through the Upper City at any time. If any Watch guards should stop you, just show them these."\n\nHe walks behind his desk, sits down, and takes a sip of his drink before continuing "Part of the reason I have asked you here, is that I would like your help in patrolling the Upper City after curfew.
